Non-Holdem games are in general less ‘solved’ and offer the potential to achieve considerably higher winrates. Perhaps the softest games around at the moment are Omaha High Low, or 08 games. Below are 5 tips that should enable all players to beat micro and mid-low stakes 08 games. These tips assume an understanding of the rules of 08, but little or no background in basic 08 strategy.

Omaha Hi Low (PLO8) Strategy Tip No.1 – Get A Good Rakeback Deal

This may seem like a self-serving lead tip to find on a rakeback site, and it is of course advice that applies to any poker game as a matter of course, because playing any game without rakeback where it is available is essentially throwing away money. But if rakeback is important in Holdem games, it is orders or magnitude more important in split pot games. Unlike in Holdem, where good players see few showdowns, 08 hands frequently go to showdown and, in the case of big bet variants, are frequently played for stacks once they get there. Because of the split pot, players with strong one way hands often attempt to leverage their opponents off weak hands they expect to split with. A good rule of thumb through to midstakes is that 08 will typically generate rake equivalent to a NLHE game 2-3 levels lower, so rakeback is all but essential to maintain a meaningfully positive winrate, even in the case of microstakes players.

Omaha Hi Low (PLO8) Strategy Tip No.2 – Play to Scoop

This rule applies always in limit games and in PL/NL08 it applies whenever hands are played strictly for value. If you are beginner you should ignore the few situations in BB08 games which represent exceptions to this rule and play to scoop 100% of the time. When you play for half the pot your best case scenario is getting your money returned, and losing a small amount to the rake – your worst case is getting quartered or scooped. That does not mean you should fold strong one way hands when there is a lot of money in the pot pricing you in to call for half, but you should exercise pot control in these situations and moreover try to avoid them in the first place by not committing yourself with one way hands. Any A2 is probably too good to fold pre in all but the tightest games, but A2 hands which are vulnerable to being quartered like A2Jx are classically problematic in this regard and should be played with caution.

Omaha Hi Low (PLO8) Strategy Tip No.3 - High hands are better than low hands

Particularly in multi-way pots. This concept isn’t too complicated but it is worth remembering at all times. The simple reason for this is that high hands are more likely to be unique. If you have the nut high hand in a multi-way pot, barring soul reads you should be betting for value at every opportunity. If you have the nut low hand in a multi-way pot and are without high potential you should be pot controlling, or perhaps even folding into small pots, particularly where your low hand is formed by A2; a starting hand which is always a prominent part of your opponents’ range.

Omaha Hi Low (PLO8) Strategy Tip No.4 – Don’t slowplay big hands

Not at micro or low stakes anyway, especially in position. This is partly the nature of the game and partly due to Omaha Hi Low not yet being as evolved or solved as NLHE. Either way, in practice it is rare to run into thin value bets in 08 games, especially on earlier streets, and thin 2/3 barrels are almost unheard of. Your aim in 08 should be to punish one way hands, or better yet one way draws, and to maximize equity on freerolls. Unlike NLHE your opponents generally will have some kind of hand should they be looking for a reason to call, so failing to build a pot aggressively with lock hands in most circumstances just amounts to declining value.

Omaha Hi Low (PLO8) Strategy Tip No.5 – Simulate your hands

There are several online 08 simulators, an example is Propokertools. Many 08 players simply do not know their equity in 08 hands, including in very common spots. Compare that to Holdem, where nowadays everybody knows they’re they’re 8:1 to flop a set from their pocket pair and that they’re hitting their flush a third of the time. Remember back in 2005 and 2006 when Holdem players didn’t know that stuff? Remember how great the games were? 08 is still at that point. By simulating your hands and committing the results to memory you will pick up a massive edge in 08 games facing players who do not understand the fundamental probabilities involved in the hands they play. When you do simulate hands pay close attention to card removal, which is a more significant factor in four card games, especially in multi-way pots. Your high rundown cards may simulate poorly against random hands but if you are facing a 4bet family pot and can assign aces and deuces to most of your opponents you may suddenly find yourself a clear favourite.

Below is a summary of the 4 4Donk poker rooms and software.

Enet Poker Room:

4donk.com with Enet has created a highly playable solution, favoring the choice of all players. 4donk on Enet Poker offers the best games giving customers a unique gameplay experience.
Casino di Venezia Live Poker Room:

4Donk.com presents the first online poker room that takes players live to the real-life Casinò di Venezia in Malta. LIVE Poker promises fans of Texas Hold’em the thrill of a new gaming experience. Players connected from home will be able to experience the excitement of being dealt cards by real croupiers from the poker room of the Casinò di Venezia in Malta. 4donk on Casino di Venezia poker offers tournaments, free rolls, cash games, Sit&Go, plus an exclusive lobby area where private tables can be set up for friends to play one another.

How Soft is the Competion at 4 Donk Poker?
ENET Poker Network and European Everleaf Poker Network are the joint number 1 softest poker networks in our opinion with the easiest poker games and worse level of opponents skill wise. Entraction Network is a very close second to the first two and comprised of maniacal Scandinavians who play way too loose and never fold. The best thing about the Entraction Poker Network however is the great tournament schedule they have and comprise of very soft fields. Probably the best kept secret in the online poker world for online poker tournament grinders.

Is there Much Traffic At 4Donk Poker?
Over the 4 networks there are 10000 individual players playing regulary at European Peak hours. This figure can drop down to 5000 in off peak hours. However because you can play on 4 different networks, you can always guarantee you will find a game of your liking, whether its No Limit or Pot Limit Omaha cash games, Mutli-table or Single table tournaments.

Security, Deposit & Withdrawals Rating

Many peolple will know that up until 4Donk Poker, poker players who wanted to play on the ENET poker network and Everleaf Network had to use Agents to transfer money on and off accounts for the players. Because of some shady agents, a number of poker players never got paid money that was owed to them. Thankfully 4Donk have now rectified this situation. They have been granted a gaming liciense by the Maltese Lottery and Gaming Commission and therefore are allowed to set up their in house cashier system.

What this means is you can now deposit and withdraw onto ENET Poker Network, Everleaf Poker Network, Entraction and Casino di Venezia Live Poker Room directly through the 4Donk Cashier in your poker account. This removes the need for a middle man which also removes the problem of getting screwed over by an unscrupulous Agent. Thank you 4Donk Poker!

Tom answers on Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy:

This method can be very successful if the other players at the table are passive or bad. For example, if you can limp in with 98s vs QQ and cheaply see if you will hit two pair, a straight, or a flush, and then get his whole stack when you do, go ahead and see lots of flops.

But if every hand is raised substantially preflop, you’ll just be throwing away your chips since you can’t call a big raise with a mediocre hand (at least not very often without losing all your chips).

Jake answers on Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy:

First off if you are confident in your game do not change it for anything.

I try not to let the size of my stack or the size of a buy in dictate the way I play. Sometimes its hard to take the freerolls and the cheap tournys seriously, and then lose early. But if you play them legit you can usually make it far. And the same with the size of my stack. I’m not going to raise with an Ace 10 or lower off suit or call certain raises with A 10 or lower off suit just because I have a nice stack. I would play the same as you normally do through out. Which probably is playing conservatively all the while mixing it up a little bit.

I would use this oportunity to see cheap flops early with certain good cards (mid suited conector types) with good position. And use post flop play to your advantage and know where you stand and put your money in at the right time with the best hand.

And once blinds start going up then kick back and play a little tighter. If you have a good game you should do all right.

They usually have these tournys at the higher $$ levels. So look for your cheapest ones to start out and see if you like them and what works well for you. Experimental games are always best at low levels. Why jump into a $20 stud hi/low if your not used to that game? Unless you won entry through satelite, then Congrats!

Good Luck.

I’m very aggressive when I play head-to-head. I make my initial bet 2.5-5 times the big blind if my opponent simply checks or calls the blind. If he bets, I at least double it. I do this regardless of what is in my hand. My bets on the flop and turn are at least half the pot. I usually go all-in on the river if I DON’T think I have the better hand, but don’t think my opponent has a good hand either. If I think I have a real good hand, I usually just bet the pot.

Most of all, do NOT get emotional. Just because you lost a hand, don’t try for the “revenge” bets. Emotion in poker = losing.

There is many ways to play Texas Hold’em tournaments. However, you can use some plays to improve your game. I like to project a table image, if I know i will be at a table for a while. I will usually play very tight early and if I play a hand will raise if I am first in the pot. I will rarely show a hand, but sometimes I will show a really good hand if everyone folds, just to show that I am not raising with junk. As the blinds go up, there is more chips in the pot pre flop. Using the tight image I have projected, I now have more opportunities to steal the blinds with mediocre hands. I have done very well when I play this way.

You can also do the opposite. Play very loose early. Sometimes, show a garbage hand when everyone folds to your pre flop raise. Let the other players at the table think you are a maniac player. Then, when you get a big hand, your opponents are more likely to call you because you are playing very loose and you showed nothing.

What is the best online poker room?

My question is actually in two parts. And what I mean by “best online poker room,” I’m asking about what is the best overall and which has the most credibility.

1) From what I’ve read, PokerStars is the best, with Full Tilt coming in second.

2) Is it worth playing online at all, considering the fact that a lot of people play using bots and other programs to give them a stronger advantage?

The biggest concern I have about playing online is whether or not it will help improve my game, considering you obviously can’t see the players faces or study their body language. I’ve been doing very well at poker rooms in Vegas this past year, but I don’t live there and I’m not ready to quit my job and go professional until I at least make it to the final round of a major tournament. But it would be nice to be able to practice with other serious players when not in Vegas.

I’ve been a bit technophobic when it comes to this sort of thing, but if it really does help improve one’s game and Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy at brick-and-mortar tournaments, I suppose it’s worth a shot.

He is not afraid to write what is thinking and this has caused numerous controversies, the most famous being feuds with Annie Duke whom he absolutely hates and also with Andrew Robl whom he labeled a nit on National Television. He also was very vocal in attempting to bring justice to the poker players who were cheated by UB and absolute Poker. He has been saying for years that they were dirty and corrupt and now with the advent of Black Friday in the poker world, all this has rang true with the demise of those two sites and the loss of even more poker players money.

Nevada approved a bill on the 13th June 2011 which sets them up nicely for being the Hub of online poker in the USA when the Federal Government finally gets around to regulating the industry.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed 36 bills into law Friday and one was AB258 which was intended to make Nevada a front runner of internet gambling.

The was just one revision on the bill that came after Black Friday on April 15th when the U.S. Justice department handed down indictments on the three major online poker sites.

Originally the bill was designed to prohibit the denying of a Nevada license to online poker sites. That provision has now been deleted.

Why was that included there in the first place? To protect the likes of poker sites that were flaunting the UIGEA laws to automatically gain a licence? That shows how much power Poker Stars and Full Tilt had before the DOJ indictments.

According to Assembly man William Horne this bill will make Nevada a licensing model for all the other states. There is a catch though; this bill will go in effect if and when the federal government legalizes online gambling.

There has been a lot of maneuvering among the major land base gambling companies and there is a bill currently getting ready to be presented in Congress so maybe this all will come together.

What does this online Gambling Bill mean to everyday poker players?

This is definitely a very good sign for online poker in America. If the big land based casinos are lobbying the lawmakers in Nevada to pass this bill, then there must be some inside knowledge that things are going to change for the better in the near future. Online poker players in the USA and all over the World are drooling in anticipation for that day.

I need some online Poker tips and Strategies?

I want to start my online poker account soon but I need some tips. My causing has let me play on his account(fulltilt) many times and I have learned how to play but I need to play better .I am not planning to make good income playing poker but I do want to make few bucks here and there. The last tournament I won for my causing because he had to to leave had a reward of 60$ which was nice. I won 3 out of 3 tournaments what he would ask me to finish for him and I have won some on my own but since it’s his account I would only risk about 2$ per tournament he risks more. Here are some neat strategies that I have developed . I have found a way to take advantage of pressure players by pretending to hassitate and once they pot me and expect me to fold I double it up and at that point its really hard for them to fold.(I do this when i have good cards) I also switch my playing style from playing only when i have good cards to bluffing and playing almost every hand during the cource of the tournament. I never go all in before the flop and when I chose when to pot raise or fold I do it really fast so its hard for them to read me. Do you have any tips because I am a noob but a very cautios one?

You will learn pretty quick that the key to poker is about aggresion. I say this because of this reason. Wen u play tight/conservative poker, you can only win the pot by having the best hand. Wen u play loose/aggresive poker you can win the pot by making your opponents fold and having the best hand. One thing to keep in mind is timing. You need to take into consideration what position your in [i.e big blind, small blind, dealer, cut off (behind dealer)], what cards you have and your opponents stack sizes. All this will be learnt over time and theres no real way of explaining it because assuming your playing texas hold’em chances are u will never face the 7 same cards (2 in hand, 5 community) and the ones your opponents are holding, in one hand again.

Finally. Practice. And practice. And practice. You should be playing in freeroll tournaments and play money tournaments to get the feel of a tournament structure. You should stick to playing one where u know how many people enter each time and what blind structure (blind time limits) you feel comfortable playing with your style. If you feel there are alot of donkeys going all-in because its a free tournament remember it happens. The best thing u can do is sit out for the first half hour or so until they knock themselves out, then people play seriously. You should be always aiming to win a tournament and not just a place because remember when you have a chip stack over someone, you ultimately control their fate. Hope a bit of this helps

Online poker rakeback isn’t something that should affright you to any degree. Once you get to know details about it, you’ll realize how useful an edge it really is.

What Is Rakeback?

Rakeback is the amount of money a poker player pay to use the poker software and other services provided by a poker room. The rake amount is taken from all winning pots and from all tournament buy in fees.

The other requirement is you set up a rakeback account in order to play in the tournament, but this is a good deal for you as well.

In short, the rake is a fee taken out of every pot and if you sign up for a “rakeback” account when you first open a poker account you will be entitled to 25-33% of the rake you pay in each pot returned to you.

Although small for each pot the rake really adds up online, especially if you are playing more than one table.

admin answers:

Unfortunately you can’t retag your account once it’s been tagged to an affiliate.

The reason for this is the site makes money off your rake once you’ve been tagged. That site wouldn’t be willing to give up your rake % for free. You can of course sign up to a new site with RakebackReward.com and start receiving rakeback and sign up bonuses today.

Some of the above networks will naturally have more traffic than others. Therefore if you are mainly a tournament or Sit and Go player, it would be advisable to play on the following networks; Cake and Merge Gaming. These sites will more than satisfy your need to good tournament guarantees and the Sit and Go’s will also fill up fast, which is ideal for the multi table grinders.

For cash game players it is always advisable to have accounts on each network. The smaller traffic sites will always have the fishier players so therefore it is essential if you take table selection seriously that you rotate between the sites. At the weekends you should think about playing on some of the lesser known networks like Everleaf and Yatahay as the games are very soft.

All the above poker sites that have rakeback offers will always have plenty of cash game tables available up to 200nl. All regular small stakes players should check out all the networks as you never know they might actually surprise you.

Party Poker Rakeback – Party Poker Room Review

Software 9/10

In 2008 Party Poker made a major overhaul to their software. The results are very impressive with slick, fast software. This means no crashes and you can multi-table up to 12 tables without any hassles performance wise. This also leads to greater accumulation of party poker rakeback and VIP points. Customization options are fairly limited and mostly deal with animation and sound. Tables can be resized however there is no option to tile or cascade automatically which can be a little time consuming when you kick start a multi table session. The lobby of Party Poker has good filters and is divided into easy to navigate categories. In the lobby you can see the number of hands per hour, the average pot size and the percentage of players who see the flop per table. You can also create custom filters to speed up the table selection process.

Soft Competition 10/10

Party Poker is softer than Full Tilt and Poker Stars Pre FBI charges and blackout. Therefore it is your traditional European based player pool which means crazy erratic play from the many recreational players that frequent the site and a predictable tight aggressive play from the regulars. Party Poker has the ability to attract numerous fish to the site due to their advantageous position of being the worlds most recognizable poker brand. To this day Party Pokers are one of the biggest spenders in large scale advertising and therefore the ratio of recreational players to regulars always remains healthy. And now with the big question marks over the Full Tilt and Poker Stars reliability of payment processing, the fish will come in their droves to Party Poker. Alot of fish coupled with a good rewards scheme (i.e party poker rakeback)

Traffic 9/10

Party Poker is the largest European Poker site and according to Poker Scout has 23,000 unique frequent players. There are on average 7,000 players on the cash games tables during peak hours so there is never an issue of poor traffic. The Sit and Go’s and MTT’s fill up fast so this site is suitable for poker players of all game specialties.

Deposit/Withdrawal 10/10

All the industry standards are allowed and used.

Deposits: Neteller, Moneybookers, Visa, MasterCard, Instadebit, EuroCard, Diners Club, Laser, Solo, Maestro, wire transfer and echecks

Withdrawals: Neteller, Moneybookers, Visa, MasterCard, Instadebit, EuroCard, Diners Club, Laser, Solo, Maestro, wire transfer and echecks

Security 10/10

Party Poker are a listed company and therefore obeyed the UIGEA laws introduced in 2006 in America and restricted American players from playing there. Because of this they have put themselves in a great position for whenever online poker is finally regulated in USA and will be one of the first poker rooms to be granted a license when this occurs. Party Poker are based out of Gibraltar and in all the history of online poker there has never been a negative story in relation to payment processing or player ethics. This site because of its size has a reputation (which every other poker site would cherish) treats all their customer with the respect they deserve. I have no qualms in keeping a large bankroll on this site.

Rake 8/10

Rake is industry standard at 5% and you can take advantage of Party Poker Rakeback as detailed above to receive compensation for rake paid.

Overall Rating – 90%

Party Poker is the third biggest Poker Room worldwide and the biggest European only site in terms of traffic. Through its brand name and reputation it offers great peace of mind for people who have large sums of money on the site. The players are mostly at mid stakes and lower and are active during peak European hours. As long as you aren’t a nose bleed high-stakes player, you should find plenty of games to play in, often with soft competition. PartyPoker has a great VIP program/ Party Poker Rakeback Scheme that offers excellent rewards for players who frequent their site. The sign up bonus is simple to clear and they also offer regular reload bonuses to keep the fish coming back to the site and also as a nice reward for the regulars.
